On Scaling a Business...
"Practice what you preach, even in small inner circles. What happens behind closed doors is probably the most telling sign of how a leader or business owner is truly contributing to, or standing up against, discrimination. Be mindful of what you say and do, how you deal with the biased and hurtful comments and actions of others, and what you are willing to accept as a social norm."
"It is critical to reconcile the expectations of every relevant leader and get very clear on what your business needs are in a candidate before the hiring process begins. Once you have that, you can objectively look at a candidate’s past results and experience, as well as use assessments and other tools that can help you make the least biased, most evidence-based decision."
"The biggest red flag for any business decision is a decrease in the bottom line. If a company invests in ways to scale its operations, it should be to meet an increase in demand and a corresponding increase in sales. If the cost to scale is greater than the forecasted revenue, the ROI on the investment won't be realized."
